My name is Rex and this is a part of my testimony and Gods grace. When I was younger my father was an addict so I had always saw addiction in my life but I never thought I’d grow up to be the same man my dad was. My life was surrounded by chaos and drugs and because I had witnessed and been around that type of life style when I was younger I grew up to think it was normal. I had always known God but never decided to fully commit my life over to him. When I was 15 I had major surgery which led me to an addiction of pain medication then eventually to meth. I had always had a job but still had no real meaning to life and continued to use thinking this was who I was going to be forever. At the age of 25 I had two heart surgeries and then at the age of 29 I had spleen surgery which kept fueling my opioid addiction. This would turn into a 17 year battle of addiction that I could not let go of. I eventually had to have three of my fingers amputated due to my IV drug use and still that did not make me stop using. I destroyed everything in my life all for the love of drugs. One night while I was on probation I was arrested and while I was in jail I had decided that I would re-dedicate my life to Christ, he revealed to me that night in jail that i could not do this on my own. When I was released from jail I started attending Celebrate Recovery where I had met some of the guys from Project Hope in Florida. I started to ask questions and find out about there program and what they were all about. After many conversations and knowing that I needed help with my addiction on August 21,2017 I entered Project Hope! No other program would take me because of my surgeries I had in the past , but they did – they took me in and gave me a place to call home! I have been here for 6 months now and my life has had a drastic change. I am stronger & happier then I’ve ever been, I have a peace that surpasses all understanding but most of all a family that is restored . I could of not had any of this without God guiding my every step! When I am done my program I plan on staying on at the FL center to give back and help the new guys that come in this program .
