My name is Freddy I’m 32 years old and I’m from the streets of Houston.  I was born into a gang neighborhood called the sixth ward. I was taught at a real young age how to fight, not to snitch, and how to tell unmarked cars in the neighborhood.  In middle school I was already breaking into houses and by the time I was in high school I was already selling drugs. I went to church with my Mom and Dad, we were Catholic, so I didn’t really any knowledge of who God was.  By the age of 16, I was making more money then both my parents put together; I liked the power that came from selling drugs. I started using my own supply to get high at the age of 25, I lost most of my money, friends, and cars over my addiction. Also, I caught a robbery case, ended up in jail.  While sitting in jail, I started to wonder if my life had any meaning.  One day a good friend of mine came up to me and asked if I knew Jesus Christ and I said no; I ended up accepting Jesus into my heart in a jail cell. I got out a year later and I relapsed got high and went back to what I knew, getting high. This lead to me going in and out of jail, violation of probation, possession, and then I caught my last case that landed me back in jail, I wasted 5 years in and out.  I got tired of being in and out of jail. I got into a secular rehab center, while I was at work at the center, praying to God to help me build a strong relationship with him, I was cutting the yard and found a Project Hope card stuck in the grass. I knew that was God telling me that there is a new life waiting for me; so I called and came in a week later.  Now my relationship with the Lord is on a whole new level, I’m loving life more than ever before.  I now have a purpose to fulfill God’s plan in my life to reach the youth; to speak to those who are lost and to shed light in the darkness. I know I’m being used in a great way, I am thankful that the Lord put me where I need to be.  He has placed me where I can be rooted and grounded; taught and nourished.  The scripture I stand on is 2 Corinthians 5:17- “If anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation, all things passed away, all things become new.”
